Directional antennaAn antenna that favours one direction, trading coverage for gain.
HFHigh frequency - bands that refract off the ionosphere and can carry far beyond the horizon.
NetA scheduled on-air gathering, run to a format by a net control operator.
RepeaterA station that receives a signal and retransmits it at higher power from a better location, greatly extending handheld range.
RescanMaking a television re-survey available channels. Needed after moving an antenna or when stations change frequency.
UHFUltra high frequency - most digital television. More affected by trees and terrain than VHF.
VHF/UHFVery and ultra high frequency - the bands carrying most local repeater traffic, generally line-of-sight.
Volunteer examinerA licensed operator accredited to administer amateur radio examinations.
